The representative, Masashi Sasaki, is the only hinoki bark thatcher in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Hinoki bark thatching is a roofing construction method that uses materials refined from hinoki bark, secured with bamboo nails. For example, this technique can be seen in the Kyoto Imperial Palace, Kiyomizu Temple, and Itsukushima Shrine, as well as in Yamaguchi City’s National Treasure, the Rurikouji Five-Story Pagoda, and the main hall of Ryufukuji Temple.
